Arthur's mutation is such that he generates an invisible psychic field within which the life force of others are transferred to him. The size of this field is roughly a one hundred foot radius around him. Typically speaking, the life syphoning effect is so small that most people do not notice it unless they have prolonged exposure, or intense activity near him. Someone who's been around him for an hour or so might start feeling drained, like they really need a nap. Someone playing a sport will find that they get winded a lot faster, don't hit as hard, and so forth. Repeated prolonged exposure with only a short time between them can kill (see background). This syphoning of life force is really all Arthur needs to survive. He neither needs to eat, nor drink so long as he has a steady supply of life energy. Furthermore, he has an extremely reduced need for sleep.
#1 Strength of Many: Arthur's physical strength increases proportionally to the number of people he is currently draining energy from. In an area with a high population density (like New York) this gain is usually considerable.
#2 Many Shall Stand: Arthur's physical durability, endurance, and ability to withstand harm also increase in a similar manner as his strength. The more people are around him, the more difficult it is to cause him harm. While his 'passive' boost affects Endurance stat itself, the 'active' boost for the number of people in the current scene instead grants Natural Armor affecting only physical damage.
#3 Perception of the Crowd: The greater the number of people Arthur is currently feeding upon, the greater his sense of his surroundings, and the easier it is for him to notice things with any of his senses.
*Together these account for Arthur's high stats, which drop to the stated amounts if he ends up in a less populated area, or his powers are clogged/negated. Furthermore, the listed stats increase by +1CS for every five characters, friend or foe, involved directly in a fight. Unconscious characters count, but dead ones do not. Arthur passively deals 1 damage to everyone nearby every round of combat and every hour out of combat.
*In an area of notably massive population (Greater than New York City), Arthur's enhanced stats increase by a further +1CS.
Weaknesses: Lack of control - Arthur currently has no choice but to generate his life syphoning field, making it difficult for people to remain near him for lengthy periods of time. Furthermore, people with forced mutations, since their genetic makeup is altered and unnatural, are anethema to him, and feeding off one cancels out 5 mutants or normal humans he would otherwise be feeding from. If this should cause the number of people he's feeding on to go into the negatives, effectively, he will weaken, lose consiousness, and even die. Furthermore, his feeding leaves an open psychic conduit, which leaves him more susceptable to subtle manipulations psychically. Brute-force manipulations, however, such as forcing him into an action are actually more difficult since he has the energy of so many to shore up his will.
Matter over Mind - While the flood of power greatly enhances Arthur's strength and durability, some parts of his body simply can't keep up. If the Arthur deals damage greater than his current Endurance rating, he takes the overflow as damage himself, ignoring his own Armor. Strength used for non-damage purposes ignores this problem.
Skills and Hobbies: Stealth and petty theft. Now on the street, Arthur sometimes has to hide or steal to survive. He used to enjoy video games, and has a high school student's knowledge of computer use.
Background/History: Arthur Drambonsky had a pretty normal life for, well, most of his life. He got up in the morning, kissed his mother's cheek before heading to school where he sat in various classrooms all day, then came home and played video games, or hung out with friends until dinner... You know, life. Then when he was about thirteen or so, people started getting tired around him a lot, and people stopped hanging out with him as much anymore. His parents almost never had much in the way of energy anymore, and when they were at home, they mostly slept. Arthur, on the other hand, had more and more energy. He was faster, and stronger, and much better able to notice things. In fact, the more people were nearby, the better he felt! Which was why it was so heartbreaking that people didn't want to be near him. The older he got, the less real friends he had, and the more disillusioned with others he became. He wasn't particularily picked on, or anything like that, just isolated by not ever being included. It started to feel like he wasn't really there - or that maybe the other people weren't - regardless of how many were around at once. Then, his parents both died in their sleep. The doctors said that it was 'African Sleeping Sickness', but no one could figure out how they'd got it. Arthur, somehow, knew the truth though - it hadn't been some disease, it was his fault. His parents were dead because of him. So, when they were making plans to place him in foster care until he was a little older, he was making plans to run away. It didn't take him long, wasn't very hard, and no one really looked for him all that thuroughly. Ever since, he's been living on the streets, finding that the occasional snack, and quick cat-nap were all he needed to get by.
Criminal Record: None.
Appearance: Arthur has shaggy brown hair that's a bit messy and a bit of a mop-top. He covers it up with a touque fairly frequently. He tends to wear a bit of a mish-mash of loose and baggy clothing, that often looks neither super-dirty, nor precisely clean. He's a pretty big kid, looking strong, and possibly athletic. He's got that 'I'm too young to really grow a beard' beard.
Personality: Arthur is typically pretty aloof. Life has jaded him to the plights of others, and he tends to do things on a basis of 'what's in it for me'? He doesn't actively seek to harm others, but does tend to help others who are in a real bind (although reluctantly), unless he can see some benefit to himself in the act. However, the 'what's in it for me' attitude is mostly a front, and a mask - he's simultaneously starved for attention, and terrified that he'll be the death of anyone he lets close.
Tidbits and Facts: Occasionally, when feeding off of mutants, he'll display a minor physical attribute that is related to that mutant. For example, if he were feeding off of Beast, some of his hair might slowly gain blue highlights. If he were feeding off Cyclops, his irises might start to turn toward a shade of red. He has no control over this, and it happens somewhat randomly.
Growth and Development: Powers wise, there is a lot of potential for growth, separated into two categories: Connection growth, and Benefit growth. Connection growth would involve the evolution of his connection to the people he's feeding off of - whether that be gaining the control to turn it on or off, getting information as well as food from them (learning skills temporarily, for example, or getting surface emotions or thoughts). Benefit growth would be getting more things from feeding off more people - the ability to change in size, the ability to manifest the powers of other mutants in some way, the ability to heal himself by syphoning off a little extra energy. Things like that. On a non-power level, he also has a lot of potential for growth. Socially, being on the fence, he can be pushed in one direction or the other - become a hero or a villian, depending on what happens to him. He longs for the ability to connect to people again, in a significant way, but he doesn't see how that's possible the way his mere presence affects them.
