Rocket is unsure of much of his past, other than it involved repeated, traumatic instances of "being torn apart and being put back together" by unknown forces. At one point, he met Groot, a rare floral colossus, and the two began to operate as bounty hunters in the galaxy before running into Peter Quill, Gamora, and eventually Drax the Destroyer. Caught in an escalating series of events, Rocket banded together with his newfound aquaintances in a battle against Ronan the Accuser on the planet Xandar, in which they were victorious, their new grouping quickly monikered "The Guardians of the Galaxy."
Finding about the troubles on Earth sometime after this, and together with Groot, took up bounty hunting on the planet (and inadvertinally introducing dangerous alien weaponry to an already tenuous crime market.)
